San Benito golf teams place at district tourney

HoundsSan Benito High School golf competitors competed at the District 31-5A Golf Tournament held April 8-9 at Tierra Santa Golf Course in Weslaco.

In the boys division, the Greyhound golf team placed third and received UIL bronze medals, this at a tournament in which the total number of players in field was 60. Team members include Francisco Guerra (75-72=147, fourth place), Ben Valle (81-83=164, 10th place), Jason Santana (85-87=172, 14th place), Daniel Guerra (91-82=173, 15th place), and Jesse Robles (109-96=205, 35th place). The team’s total score was 332-324=656.

Other participants included Frank Ortega (113-104=217, 39th place), and David Munoz (114-117=231, 49th place).

In the girls division, the Lady ’Hound golf team finished in fifth place at the tourney among 34 players in field, with Emma Valle (90-83=173) earning the first place medal and qualified for the Region IV Competition, scheduled April 17-18 at the Brackenridge Golf Course in San Antonio.

Also competing were Dulce Reyna (143-132=275, 33rd place), Erica Galicia (148-144=292, 38th place), and Raquel Chavez.
