WESLACO – The San Benito High School freshmen boys’ track team competed at a 31-5A district meet held at Bobby Lackey Stadium on Thursday, April 4.
Competing in the 400 meter relay were John Belmares, Nicholas Rosales, Jacob Zuniga and Alex Castillo, who collectively placed third with a time of 47.10. Joshua Ochoa ran a time of 2.22.94 in the 800 meter run while Xavier Martinez ran a time of 2.30.34 and Roel Luna ran a time of 2.31.02.
Pablo Castro placed third in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.45 while Mario Valdez placed fourth with a time of 18.12 and Ricky Garcia placed sixth with a time of 18.86. Jacob Zuniga ran a time of 12.67 in the 100 meter dash while Ted Chapa ran a time of 12.70 and Mario Aguirre ran a time of 13.08.
Competing in the 800 meter relay were John Belmares, Nicholas Rosales, Eddie Alvarez and Alex Castillo who placed third with a time of 1.38.43. Eddie Alvarez placed fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 56.70 while Xavier Martinez ran a time of 61.84 and Roel Luna ran a time of 61.84.
Mario Valdez placed third in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 45.58 while Pablo Castro placed fourth with a time of 45.80 and Ricky Garcia ran a time of 47.95. Nicholas Rosales placed third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.89 while Ted Chapa ran a time of 26.42 and Mario Aguirre ran a time of 26.83.
John Belmares, Pablo Castro, Mario Valdez and Alex Castillo compete in the 1600 meter relay and placed third of 3.48.49.
Joseph Partida placed fourth in the discus. Pablo Castro placed fifth in the high jump with a jump of 5’4”. Ramiro Reza placed sixth in the shot put. Eddie Alvarez placed second in the pole vault with a vault on 11’6”.
The team, coached by Rolando Casas, placed fourth with a total of 81 points.
