Ramirez recognized for work in juvenile probation

Tommy Ramirez, who has dedicated over 30 years to the Juvenile Justice System, 10 of those years have been with Cameron County, recently received one of the state’s highest awards for his position.

On Tuesday, March 26, at the Texas Probation Association State Conference in Austin, Ramirez, who is the Chief Executive Officer at Darrell B. Hester Juvenile Justice Center in San Benito, was recognized with the 2012-2013 Outstanding Juvenile Probation Chief in the State of Texas by receiving the Amador R. Rodriguez Award.

“Every year we have a state conference through the Texas Probation Association, and each year they select the outstanding juvenile probation chief of the year,” said Ramirez. “I was pleasantly surprised with this award from my peers and the association.”

According to Ramirez, over 450 people attended the conference in Austin, consisting of probation officers and probation chiefs from all parts of the state.

“It’s pretty cool,” Ramirez said. “I felt honored. I was surprised.”
