Here comes Peter Cottontail.
The first annual San Benito Easter Parade will be held at the Heavin Resaca Trail on Saturday, March 30.
The parade will feature music from the San Benito High School Jazz Band as well as local singer Carlos Cañas.
“It’s going to be the first annual, first ever Valley-wide Easter Parade,” said Mike Frazier, who is spearheading the event. “That’s what we’re producing it as, because I don’t know of another Easter event in the Valley, and I stand corrected if you can find one. I’ve never heard of one past or present.”
Frazier added, “The Easter bunny has agreed to show up at the parade. He’ll be walking around for free pictures.”
Acknowledging the draw of the Heavin Resaca Trail, Frazier said he decided to hold the event there in hopes of attracting a large crowd.
Among the events planned for the parade is an Easter bonnet competition and contests for the best stroller decorations and best children’s wagon.
“Back in my day, women used to dress up for church with their Easter bonnets on,” Frazier recalled. “They’d want to show off their new hats. I think anyone can buy a hat at the dollar store and decorate it, then come out and have a good time.
Onsite registration will be held from 10-11 a.m. and the parade will kick off at 11:15 a.m.
“The order in the parade will be the wagons, then the Easter bonnets, then the strollers,” Frazier said. “If anyone should wish to participate in all three, they can all be together in one group.”
There’s no cost to attend.
“I can’t emphasize that enough,” Frazier said. “Just by showing up, you’re supporting a better San Benito, I think. There’s too much negativity in this town, that’s really what inspired me. There are good people, and they want to participate in things. This is going to prove it. I’m just tired of negative stuff.”

Oh,I will two cents, you go for me,maybe you can get my “free stuff”,that all are attending for.
This sounds to be about as tacky as it gets.Maybe let the school board members and supt. headline the parade, then it would be a true parade,a real circus.
Juan, the community and human race would best be served if you stayed away from the event. Serving the community with the Easter Parade should be applauded, not ridiculed by the likes of you, sir.
