San Benito police have asked the community to be on the lookout for a man wanted for aggravated sexual assault of a child.

According to a flyer distributed to local media outlets Thursday by Detective Rogelio Banda Jr. of the San Benito Police Department, Jesus Manuel Meza, 45, is wanted for aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first degree felony charge stemming from an early 2012 incident.

“We’ve been looking for this guy for a while,” Assistant Operations Chief Michael Galvan said. “He actually moved to Mission from San Benito (following the alleged assault).”

Galvan added that the alleged assault occurred in San Benito but did not reveal the victim’s age and sex, citing the circumstances of the allegations that compelled him to refrain from releasing such information.

“That’s pretty much all we can say since the matter is involving a child in a sexual assault case,” Galvan said.

Meza is approximately 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighs 180 pounds and has straight gray hair, brown eyes and a scar on his shoulder and a tattoo on his arm of a “dragon type creature.” He was last seen in Mission, where he moved following the alleged assault in San Benito. Police believe Meza could be staying in Rio Bravo or Monterrey, Mexico.

Anyone with information as to Meza’s whereabouts is encouraged to call SBPD Detective Milton Resendez at (956) 361-3880.
