Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón said the results were not official but those of a benchmark STAAR test to help give students and teachers a better understanding of what is to come.

“In almost every subject the district was either at region level or slightly below region level,” Limón said. “All of us in the region are in the same boat. We’re going to take what we learned in the benchmark year, and use it to ensure that our scores will be improving.”

When asked about what he attributed the decrease in dropouts within the district, Limón credited the Gateway Academy and the district’s ability to locate students who have decided to leave school.
