The high school track season kicked off in San Benito Friday at the annual Bobby Morrow Relays, where Greyhound and Lady Greyhound varsity athletes competed.
Placing fifth in the 3200 meter run was San Benito’s Brenda Lopez with a time of 12:05. She also placed fourth with a time of 5:34 in the 1600 meter run.
Earning second and fourth, respectively, in the long jump (16 feet) were Esmeralda Sosa, Melizza Duncan (15 feet, six inches) – both of San Benito.
Sosa and Duncan placed the same, the former with a total 34 feet, two inches and the latter with 32 feet, eight and a half inches, in the triple jump.
San Benito’s Aleene De Leon placed fifth with a seven-foot pole vault.
In the 100 meter hurdles, Sosa placed second with a time of 12:60 and sixth in the 200 with a time of 27:55. Viviana Abrego of San Benito placed second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 62:62.
Coming in at sixth in the 800 meter relay, clocking in at 1:54.82, were Abrego, Duncan, Sarina Corkill and Sosa.
In the 1600 meter relay, Rosa Gomez, Lopez, Samantha Perez and Abrego placed sixth with a time of 4:29.74.
For the Greyhounds, Rafael Duenes placed first in the 3200 meter run while Jamail Garza, Isaac Osorio, Nathan Mireles and Gabriel Vasquez placed second in the 800 meter relay.
