SBCISD logoThe San Benito Veterans Memorial Academy was without power for nearly five hours Wednesday.

According to San Benito CISD Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón, the source of the power outage was the result of a tractor striking a utility pole near the school.

Students were not sent home as classes were held at the regularly scheduled times.

“We’re still conducting classes,” Limón said at the time of the outage.

The superintendent said that VMA students were fed sandwiches and salads for lunch.

UPDATE: The San Benito News was informed at approximately 1:55 p.m. Wednesday that power had been restored at San Benito Veterans Memorial Academy after a near five-hour outage.

Those sandwiches fed to the student during lunch were frozen. No drinking water was available for the students. I feel as a parent that is not safetly.
