Every morning, when I arrive at work, and after getting settled at my desk and going through emails, I like to put on some music.
Sometimes it’s a continuation of what I was already listening to on my iPod during my five to 10 minute drive to work, sometimes it’s totally different. Either way, I like to share what I’m listening to at the moment by looking up the song’s video and posting it on my personal Twitter account (not that anyone really pays attention). It’s just part of my routine, I guess.
I tend to always have Twitter open, mostly to stay up to date with any breaking news that may occur throughout the day (especially in the wake of all these shootings that are seemingly becoming more frequent than ever). Being that I have become more fluent with Twitter in the past few weeks, my editor, Michael Rodriguez, has officially made me unofficially in charge of updating the San Benito News Twitter account (That seems easy enough).
This normally wouldn’t be a problem, but being that I tend to forget which Twitter account I am signed into, I tend to post things intended for my personal account on the San Benito News account, and vice-versa.
Here’s an example.
Lately, I’ve been really getting into rap artist A$AP Rocky’s debut album, appropriately titled “LONG.LIVE.A$AP.” More than anything, I really dig the production of his songs. Aside from his near-flawless ability to spit hot fire, the beats to his songs get me really motivated for work, in the same way it might an athlete before a game. It is especially motivational in the morning, when I am pretty much a zombie. A thin layer of psychosis is known to descend upon me if I don’t have my morning cup of coffee, but that’s getting too far off the subject.
Anyway, following through with my daily routine, I decided to post a profanity-laden song off of A$AP Rocky’s sublime debut album on my Twitter account – just a little something to let my 115 followers know what I was listening to at that particular moment. But little did I know that I was actually speaking to the 687 people who follow the San Benito News (this happened to be on the one morning I decided to not have coffee because it conflicted with a ridiculous diet I was attempting).
Nevertheless, I was immediately made aware of my mistake when I saw the link to the video, with all its golden-grill glory, next to the San Benito News profile picture. “Holy schnikes!” I removed the post quicker than a Kim Kardashian marriage. Unfortunately that was just one of numerous early morning mix-ups I’ve had since being blessed with the password to the San Benito News Twitter account, and it probably won’t be the last.
I hope to provide those of you who do have Twitter accounts with the latest up-to-date news and the like, and I hope to make myself more aware of what I’m doing to prevent cases like the aforementioned from happening again. Aside from news updates, I hope to provide photos from events I happen to be covering.
And if you do happen to be following the San Benito News on Twitter and see a video of Rage Against the Machine’s “Sleep Now In The Fire,” please disregard. It simply means that I haven’t had my coffee just yet.
Indeed, live long and prosper, A$AP Rocky.
