Contrary to a recent report, the cause for removal of at least two Economic Development Corporation board members was not as a result of their terms expiring.
In another local newspaper, Mayor Joe H. Hernandez was reported as saying that former City Commissioners Celeste Z. Sanchez and Bill Elliott were “automatically removed from the EDC board after their terms expired.”
EDC officials, however, confirmed Wednesday that both Elliott and Sanchez’s terms were not up until 2013 and 2014, respectively. Additionally, Sanchez was reappointed to serve on the EDC board as of November 2011.

Wisdom for the citizens of San Benito:
Dishonesty in government is the business of every citizen. It is not enough to do your own job. There’s no particular virtue in that. Democracy isn’t a gift. It’s a responsibility. – Dalton Trumbo
