South Texas resacas may not be home to the 12-13 foot alligators that roam the Louisiana bayous, but monsters of a different sort do lurk beneath these waters.
And Eddie Ruiz caught one.
Ruiz, 45, with the help of Ricardo Villanueva, 35, fished a 7’1” alligator gar weighing 283 pounds from a resaca just outside San Benito on Tuesday, May 22.
“At Bekins (where the gar was weighed), they told me it beat the biggest gar they’ve seen by 50 pounds,” an excited Ruiz exclaimed.
