The annual Adoption Awareness Picnic, held Saturday in San Benito, originated from the idea of San Benito Rotary Club member Lionel Betancourt over a decade ago. Betancourt has since received the prestigious “Service Above Self” citation for his efforts in establishing what is now a nationwide phenomenon in which foster children can have fun with each other while prospective adoptive parents have the opportunity to interact with them.
