police picThe San Benito Police Department (SBPD) and the Harlingen Area Crime Stoppers are asking the public for help locating the person responsible for a deadly hit and run that occurred on Oct. 10, 2010.

“A gentleman was walking northbound on FM 2520 against traffic when he was struck by a vehicle,” said Detective Manuel Cisneros of the SBPD. “There were no witnesses, and the area where he was struck was pretty dark and rural, no neighbors.”

According to Cisneros, the victim, a 36-year-old man, was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Pieces from the vehicle that struck the man were recovered at the scene of the incident. Further investigation of the pieces found at the scene has determined that the vehicle driven may have been a mid to late model Chevy or GMC SUV.

“Basically, we found the whole passenger-side mirror,” Cisneros said. “The whole assembly was left behind, so from there we were able to find out what kind of vehicle it was, more or less. We’re looking for a 90’s model Chevy or GMC SUV, maybe a Tahoe or Yukon. We do not have a color yet.”
