Two weeks ago, his sisters were preparing their brother’s obituary. Today, they’re discussing San Benito sports with the Greyhound aficionado.

On Dec. 24, 2010, Allen Judson Doan, Jr., also known as “Mr. Greyhound”, had to be taken to the emergency room where he underwent immediate surgery for an infection. Doctors told his sisters that he would only have eight hours to live.

“We called (the News) about a week and a half ago because we needed a picture. We were preparing his obituary because when he went into the emergency room they said that he had about eight hours to live,” said Doan’s sister, Elizabeth Doan McAdams. “So all of the sisters gathered because we thought we were losing him.”
