Abel Fonseca has been a boxer since his grandfather, Porforio Treviño, introduced him to the sport when he was eight-years-old.

Now he is passing on that knowledge to the children who participate in the San Benito CISD Afterschool Program.

“As of right now I am actually a professional boxer myself, it’s off and on though, I dedicate more actually to the kids,” said Fonseca, who was born in San Benito and is a 1997 graduate of Progreso High School. A current employee with the school district, Fonseca added, “Because I’ve been in boxing, I just decided to try something different, just throw it in the mix. We have some science classes to mathematics, reading, arts and crafts, of course we have our recreational like the P.E. department, and I decided to put a little boxing in there.”
