Vandalism currently plagues the W.H. Heavin Amphitheater and Park as new flood lights and Christmas decorations, most of which donated to the City of San Benito by a local retailer, were found destroyed.

The holiday decor was recently put on display as part of a Christmas tree lighting ceremony and concert held at the amphitheater and park on Saturday, Dec. 4. Decorations included flood lights and string lights donated by Wal-Mart in San Benito; they adorned the trees and shrubbery leading into the park entrance. Mayor Jack Garcia reported that as early as 9 p.m. that evening, the lights were cut and park benches were so severely damaged that some were split in two.
