Youth league holds elections, plans 2011 season

By MICHAEL RODRIGUEZ

Facing uncertainty stemming from the City of San Benito’s intentions to form its own league as well as the new fees implemented for the use of Stookey Park, the remaining members of the San Benito Youth Baseball/Softball League (SBYBSL) gathered Monday evening to conduct the election of officers for the 2011 season.

Six, however, were not present. Attending Monday was Treasurer Raymond Martinez, Secretary Rene Villafranco, Baseball Director Sabas Garza, Softball Director Lisa Garza, and Board Member Frank Garza.  Villafranco, who also serves on the San Benito City Commission, said he was relinquishing his seat to avoid any conflict of interest between the two bodies. Appointed secretary was Esther Guerrero, the only interested party present who submitted a letter of intent.
