Girls place third at tourney, boys improve

The San Benito Lady Greyhound wrestling team tasted defeat for the first time in nine tries this season as they fell in their own tournament on Saturday.

The team still had another strong day overall as they finished third place with a 4-1 record. The team easily dispatched of PSJA Memorial, 42-12, and took down Rio Hondo, 42-18, and later beat the same two schools again, 36-18, and, 36-24. The loss came in a close match as they fell to Weslaco 36-24.

Alexandria Marmolejo went unbeaten during the tournament as did Anissa Abrego. Andrea Perez (119) went 2-1 during her matches and Adriana Mancillas went 3-2 on the day. The season record for the girls now stands at 9-1 as they continue to have a strong start for this year’s team.
