ELECTION RESULTS FROM MARCH 2 PRIMARY

CAMERON COUNTY SUMMARY: The Cameron County Judge's race is still up for grabs. In the 3-way race among the Democrats, former Brownsville Mayor Eddie Trevino came out on top, but without enough votes to avert a runoff. Trevino and Precinct 2 County Commissioner John Wood will do battle in a runoff. The winner will face Republican Carlos Cascos, who ran unopposed.

It'll take a runoff to decide the Precinct 2 seat on the Cameron County Commission. Ernie Hernandez and Ruben Pena will duke it out for another month. Hernandez came out on top of the slate of 6 candidates with 22 percent of the vote. Pena followed with 20 percent. The winner will take over John Wood's seat.

In Precinct 4, Dan Sanchez the clear winner with 59 percent, over Eladio Garza with 35 percent. Sanchez will take over the seat being vacated by Edna Tamayo.

Some of the more interesting down-ballot races involved the Justice of the Peace contests in Cameron County. And in the race for J-P Precinct 6 in Cameron County, the Los Fresnos area, looks like the paddle will be removed from that courtroom. Juan Mendoza ousts incumbant Gustavo Garza, taking 54 percent of the vote.
